Peugeot 307 and 370 CC: Just the Same Bunch

Those who have come to love those small, hatchback cars might glance more than once upon the Peugeot 307. Cute and perfect for a small family, this miniature creature will astound those who are in for simple, quiet ride. But horribly, it is the same with the sports car-looking 370 CC.

The Peugeot 307 is well, little hatchback family car, for whom this European car was specifically designed and conceptualized. The 307 utilized and reworked the 306 platform, but the former is definitely larger than its predecessor. Four-cylinder with 1997cm, the Peugeot 307 is available with six engine options: for petrol engines it has 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 liters and for diesel engines 1.4, 2.0 (with 90 brake horsepower) and 2.0 (with 110 brake horsepower). One can have a lot of choices really.

Peugeot 307's design is almost the same as the typical small, European, hatchback cars (after all it is just a remake of the 306). Calling it luxurious is quite an overstatement, which in reality the car is austere. The headlights are curved upwards, and the windscreen is highly sloped. The version with retractable hardtop, the 307 CC, is just but the same as the hatchback. And it is not even remotely a sports car with its heavy bulk.

Actually, the Peugeot 307 is very economical and can save up a lot of expensive gas. The 2.0-liter engines, both the 90 bhp and the 110 bhp, can achieve 54.3 miles-per-gallon. Transmission is five-speed manual. Acceleration from 0-60 miles-per-hour would take about 11 seconds, and the car can reach the top velocity of about 117mph. About the same also goes for the 307 CC version, which despite its appearance is not even a sports car.

Despite being the European Car of the Year last 2002; the Peugeot 307 has a quite uncomfortable and small interior design. It has a large windscreen and a high roofline, which one could mistake driving an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) instead of a small, hatchback family car.

Inside the standard Peugeot 307, there are front, side and curtain airbags. Steering wheel is adjustable, for both tall and short people. There isn't much legroom, though. For those on gimmicks, the air-conditioned glove box is perfect for chilling drinks. And for family trips, the trunk is quite spacious which could be a plus point offsetting its small interior. Little necessities like keys, flashlights and batteries can be kept in drawer underneath the front seats. But in the sports car poseur version, remove all the features in the back seat and you have the 307 CC.

But one of Peugeot 307's and 370 CC's good things are its dashboard, with an additional just below the windshield. That display shows date, time, temperature and music player, which is a plus for techno-geeks.
Though the Peugeot 307 is nothing short of an improvement from its instant hit predecessor 306, the company's reputation for building pretty-looking but flimsy cars is still not dispelled. PSA Peugeot Citroen may have to look on the 307's comfort, practicality and reliability. Even the Peugeot 307 CC, despite is sports car look, it not a 10 second car.
